Brazilian Jiu Jitsu near Urbandale

Angela Bahr

Angela started her martial arts path doing traditional Boxing.  She fell in love with the sweet science for many reasons.  The family she grew at her boxing gym in Encinitas, CA touched her heart.  Upon moving back to Iowa she was unable to find a boxing coach but discovered a form of kick boxing called Muay Thai.  This beautiful art combines all the striking weapons in to one art.  Muay Thai uses hands, elbows, knees and kicks to devastating effect.  It also includes clinch fighting which the opponents are in extremely close proximity and use elbows and knees.

Angela decided to augment her Muay Thai clinch training with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.  She found she, as many people, are not used to being in such close proximity; it caused anxiety.  To condition herself into comfort she started training BJJ and it has helped here confidence, strength and adaptability in all situations.  She earned her Black Belt in Jiu Jitsu in February 2022.

Angela's has been fighting at the highest level in the world in Muay Thai.  She most recently won Silver at the IFMA world championships in Abu Dhabi in 2022 and represented the USA at the World Games in Muay Thai
